Research niche

Precision Medicine
We study the human transcriptome to investigate the key mechanisms underlying disc degeneration in patients with back pain. This project is funded by the Health Research Board, Ireland. We profile molecular markers in osteoarthritis patients following total knee arthroplasty.
Organ-on-a-Chip Technology
Human Cadaveric Study
Our group is developing a disc-on-a-chip model to probe patient-specific pathogenesis of disc degeneration, focusing on inflammation and nociception, with the aim of advancing an in vitro diagnostic device. This project is funded by the Health Research Board, Ireland.
We established a spine dissection procedure in human cadavers to support lower back pain research. This study is funded by the Health Research Board, Ireland.

Tissue Engineering

Our group is committed to creating therapeutic biomaterials for disc degeneration and the modulation of back pain. The Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and AO Spine funded these projects.

Regenerative Medicine

Our group is advancing scientific understanding and developing stem cell–based solutions to facilitate disc regeneration in the treatment of back pain. This project was funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia.
