We study the human transcriptome to investigate the key mechanisms underlying disc degeneration in patients with back pain. This project is funded by the Health Research Board, Ireland. We profile molecular markers in osteoarthritis patients following total knee arthroplasty.

Our group is developing a disc-on-a-chip model to probe patient-specific pathogenesis of disc degeneration, focusing on inflammation and nociception, with the aim of advancing an in vitro diagnostic device. This project is funded by the Health Research Board, Ireland.

We established a spine dissection procedure in human cadavers to support lower back pain research. This study is funded by the Health Research Board, Ireland.
